Richard is an experienced joiner who’s been in the construction industry for over thirty years. Responsible for the foundation and continued growth of the MFC Modular Group, Richard is passionate about creating a better construction industry. One that is more sustainable and efficient.
Richard is at the core of MFC, taking a hands on approach to the day to day running of the company and working tirelessly to achieve his goals.

John is our senior QS responsible for ensuring the accuracy of all designs and working with our design team to create the best possible design for our clients requirements. He is very experienced not only at design but also at ensuring the best materials are used for a project. Ensuring that your project is top quality from design to construction.
Why Modular?
Modular Construction is the way forward for the construction industry, along with other modern methods of construction (MMCs) have the potential to create a more efficient and sustainable industry.
Using modular construction we can accelerate the building process while lowering the carbon cost of construction. In short it lets us build for the future not just the present. The use of more sustainable materials, less heavy machinery, less overall transport and the ability to foster the circular economy make it one of the most sustainable building practices around. Meanwhile offsite construction allows for factory controlled conditions preventing delays due to problems such as weather which often halts traditional construction.
What Makes Modular Sustainable?
In short modular cuts down on the raw materials, labour and transport required in the construction process. Whether a build is completed entirely off site or produced in the facility and assembled on site modular construction limits the amount of time spent on site. As a consequence there is less disturbance to the site, less noise pollution, and less travel to and from the site.
What makes modular construction more sustainable however is the limiting of waste. Factory controlled conditions help to eliminate human error. The more precise environment means- for example- more precise cuts and fits. So less material is needed and less is rendered unusable. Combined with the use of less wasteful materials like LGS this drastically reduces the carbon cost of each project, and allows the embracing of the circular economy.
What Is The Circular Economy?
The circular economy is a system of ensuring a sustainable product throughout the entire lifespan of a material. It emphasizes, waste reduction, longevity, reuse and upscaling. How does this fit into our modular construction process?
Our use of light gauge steel means that the vast majority of each of our products is made of recycled and fully recyclable materials. This minimizes the waste created during the production process and the precision joining of these pieces further reduces the waste. What’s more important however is steels ability to be reused.
By using non-destructive methods of dismantling on buildings that need to be moved (semi-permanent constructions), or expanded upon the steel can be removed and reclaimed to be reused in the building process. Limiting the need for raw material production and aiding the industries transition to a more sustainable future.
